Competition Rules
The competition is open to harpists of any nationality who meet the following requirements.
*Please note several changes made from previously posted rules.
Competitors may enter one of the following divisions, according to the age specifications. Entries must include all the materials listed on the application page. Former First Prize winners may not re-enter the same division.*
Emerging Artist Division—ages 11 to 19 on July 11, 2012
New Artist Division—ages 11 to 14 on July 11, 2012
Entries must be received (not postmarked) by May 1, 2012. Entries received after this date, incomplete entries, or entries that do not comply with the rules will not be considered. There will be no exceptions.
Contestants must select from the repertoire choices listed here. All repertoire must be performed from memory. Preliminary DVDs and live round performances will be scored using this evaluation form.
The total time of music played must not exceed the time limit for each division, excluding pauses between pieces. Contestants may put the harp down between pieces, but are not permitted to leave the stage.* (Please note this change from previously posted rules to allow competitors a more comfortable recording and performing experience.)
Contestants who are invited to the live final round may bring their own instrument or use one provided by the competition. The competition will provide a selection of instruments but cannot guarantee a particular make, model, or size.
The decision of the judges is final.
Winning contestants must be available to perform in an evening concert on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, in Rabun Gap, Georgia. The recital will feature all winners in both divisions.
